Privacy policy
The short version: we do not ask you to sign up, we do not sell data, and the names you save stay in your own browser.
Last updated October 17, 2026
This privacy policy explains what information is handled when you use PetNameMaker.com (the "site"), operated by PetNameMaker ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
Information we do not collect
You can use every feature of the site without creating an account or giving us your name, email address or any other personal details. We do not run advertising trackers or sell, rent or trade personal information. We do use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, as described below.
Information stored in your browser
To make the tool work, the site saves a small amount of information using your browser's local and session storage. This information never leaves your device unless you choose to share it:
- Favorites: the names you save to your shortlist and their meanings.
- Preferences: your light or dark theme choice and whether the "More filters" panel is open.
- Session state: temporary information that helps the generator avoid repeating names during a visit.
You can delete this information at any time with the "Clear all" button in your favorites, or by clearing your browser's site data. Because it lives only on your device, we cannot see, back up or restore it.
Shared shortlist links
When you use "Share link", the names on your shortlist are placed in the link itself. Anyone you send the link to can see those names. Do not include anything in a shortlist that you would not want others to read.
Pronunciation audio
The "Hear it" button plays a recorded audio file served from our site, or uses your browser's built-in speech feature. Depending on your browser and device settings, that speech feature may be provided by your operating system or browser vendor under their own privacy terms.
Server logs and hosting
Like most websites, the servers that deliver the site may automatically record basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. This information is used only to keep the site secure and running reliably, and is kept for a limited time.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, to understand how visitors find and use the site so we can improve it. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the website that referred you, your approximate location (country or city), and your device, browser and operating system. It does this using cookies and similar technologies set on your device.
We use this information only in aggregate to see which features are popular and where the site can be improved. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with other information about you. Google processes this data on our behalf and may store it on servers outside your country. You can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings, or by using a content or tracker blocker.
Cookies
The site uses cookies set by Google Analytics (such as _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish visitors and sessions. These cookies can last up to two years. The site does not use cookies for advertising. Your favorites and preferences are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in cookies, as described above.
Emails you send us
If you contact us by email, we will use your email address and message only to reply to you and to improve the site, for example by adding a name you suggested. We do not add you to a mailing list.
Children's privacy
The site is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. Since we hold very little, this usually means emails you have sent us. To make a request, get in touch through our contact page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last changed. Please also read our terms and conditions.
